Professional Tutor Recognition

FETN recognises that personal tutoring is central to learner success, and that effective tutoring promotes learner progress, enables learners to develop their personal, social and employability skills and helps in addressing individual learning and support needs.

Raising the profile of this essential role lies at the heart of what we do. We are aware of how important it is for personal tutors to feel recognised and valued and this is why the FETN Professional Recognition Scheme has been developed collaboratively with FETN member institutions.

Referenced against the National Occupational Standards for Personal Tutoring the Professional Recognition Scheme provides you with a valuable opportunity to evidence your practice against the requisite skills and competencies for the role, and to identify opportunities for continuous professional development.

Levels of Recognition

There are three levels of Professional Recognition:

Recognised Practitioner in Tutoring

This is designed to recognise personal tutoring practitioners who can demonstrate a sound understanding of the principles of personal tutoring and effective tutoring practice in line with the National Occupational Standards for Personal Tutoring.

Recognised Advanced Practitioner in Tutoring

Designed to recognise Personal Tutors who demonstrate excellent tutoring skills and have a significantly positive impact on their learners’ progress and development. As Advanced Tutoring Practitioners they will also be expected to demonstrate how they contribute to the quality of tutoring and support colleagues to improve their tutoring practice.

Recognised Leader in Tutoring

This recognition is aimed at highly experienced personal tutors who can demonstrate excellent tutoring skills, provide support for others in their tutoring role, and make a significant impact on the quality of tutorial provision and practice at departmental or organisational level.
