FREE Target Setting Consultation Event

09 March 2018

Target setting in education is seen as an essential element in supporting learners to achieve however many of us still struggle to undertake this task in a meaningful way. It has been found that current problems with target setting include:

  • Poor reputation & lack of buy in
  • Insufficient guidance & preparation by students & staff
  • Low levels of confidence & understanding demonstrated by tutors
  • Disparate quality of training & development for tutors
  • Systems driven process that does not allow for personalised approach
    • Inflexible software
    • Standard ‘one fits all’ targets
  • Unhelpful terminology that does not put the learner at the heart of the process
  • De-motivating targets
    • achieve or fail
    • not relevant or realistic for individual circumstances
    • low expectations for achievement & progress
  • Lack of personal skills development target

FETN is pleased to be supporting The Education and Training Foundation to improve target setting across the sector by undertaking a review of current target setting models in order to identify good practice and to develop a way forward.
